Penis thickening
The method of penile thickening has developed fast in the last few years starting with the use of Vaseline injection generally up to the injection of autologus (self) body fat. This was followed by the use of autologus skin-fat-flap obtained from the buttocks, the insertion of a silicon prosthesis,  injection of biogel around the penis, the injection of silicon, vaseline or hot wax under the skin of the penis or implantation of Permacol.

These methods frequently brought undesirable results, including rejection (in the case of foreign materials) or re-absorption (in the case of fat) and particular deformation of the penis and its scaring. A safer method is the implantaction of Alloderm which is again an innert human skin. It does not provide the wished thickness on view of its very high price. fat injection or Skin fat flap implantation like re-absorption or asymmetry and sometimes loss of function. Furthermore, scars are virtually invisible because of the taking of the skin right from the buttock or groin areas, or they may be totally avoided altogether if the expensive and thin AlloDerm grafts are used.

The safest method is as research has shown to implant VYPRO II networks under the skin of the penis to ensure permanent results without loss of sensation.
This method based on the usage of a very well known material which has been implanted thousands of times in humans. It reduces the risk of rejection and infection and solves the problems experienced with the other methods mentioned above.

Our patients enjoy an average increase of between 2 cm and 2,5 cm in circumference (some complete circumference of 17 cm has been achieved). This is about 30-50 % increase in girth of the penis. In my opinion the method is certainly much more reliable than that of fat injection and is the best treatment currently available.

It is also the only operation technique chosen world wide to be integrated in the first time in a teching for plastic and aesthetic surgery.

Who is qualified for the operation ?

According to medical research, the average penis circumference equals approximately 13 cm. It should be mentioned once again, that  we  operate only on those patients whose penises are below average in size.

Most patients requiring the lengthening procedure do not need thickening, as shorter penises are not necessarily thinner than average.

Incision

How does the operation work ?

The operation is started with the patient being laid on his back. VYPRO II network is prepared corresponding to the length of his erect penis. These strips are then inserted under the skin of the penis or during the same operation of penis lengthening procedure. They could be also inserted through small incisions done on the base of the penis. In case of AlloDerm graft, the strips are inserted through small incisions done on the base of the penis. These techniques avoid the incisions done on the buttocks.

Healing:

The operation is done on an out patients basis, i.e. the patient is discharged from the hospital two hours after the operation. A post-operative stay of two nights in hospital for observational purposes may  be requested for some patients. The same applies if a patient requires both lengthening and thickening during the same session. The total healing time is the same as with other surgical procedures and takes up to eight months to be completed. The healing process in the later case may last somewhat longer as it is a combined procedure. The pain in the first three to four weeks may  be more intense, especially during nights.

Complications, if any, are normally limited to the complications experienced with any surgery: infection, wound oozing, bleeding and wound gaping. These complications occur very rarely and can be treated effectively  in the case of their occurrence.
A very small percentage of patients experienced temporary urinary retention and sustained erection, which were treated rapidly and effectively.

It is highly recommended that patients undergoing thickening have simultaneous use of penile stretching (weights or Penitretcher) and keep a sepcial Kompression bandage arroung the penis to keep the implants in place untill complete healing ocurrs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  1. Can man increase the girth of the penis ?

Yes, this is done through the implantation of a skin-fat-island or through the use of the ready made Alloderm under the skin and subcutaneous layers of the penis.
    --
  2. What is the ideal thickness of the penis ?

There is no ideal thickness for the penis or a standard one. The feeling of penis size is an individual one. The ideal is that the penis must be in contact with the vagina during sexual intercourse for its stimulation.
    --
  3. What is the thickness one can gain ?

It is about 30% of the present thickness.
    --
  4. Should one have circumcision for the thickening operation ?

No, it is better to avoid when VYPRO II is used.
    --
  5. What is Alloderm ?

It is a type of skin that is easily formed, can be folded, has no immunological reaction.
    --
  6. Does Alloderm have an advantage in comparison to the skin-fat-graft ?

Yes, it needs less anaesthetics, shorter operation time, leaves no scar and it is easily formed.
    --
  7. What are the disadvantages of Alloderm?

The thickness is less than that gained using the dermal-fat-graft but the implantation can be easily repeated if necessary, also the Alloderm material is expensive.
    --
  8. What is VYPRO II network?

It is a synthetic material made of absorbable and non absorbable parts. It is used thousand of times in the human bodies and it is tolerated by our body.
    --
  9. Does Alloderm has advantage in comparison to VYPRO II ?

No, proline does the same with more firmness. It needs less anaesthetics, shorter operation time, leaves no scar, results in more thickening and it is easy formable.
    --
  10. What are the disadvantages ?

The thickness is less than that gained using VYPRO II and the Alloderm material is expensive.
    --
  11. Is the effect of thickening long lasting ?

Yes, it is permanent when VYPRO II is used.
    --
  12. Will insurance cover the surgery?

The insurance covers the penile enlargement surgery of patients who have truly congenital or acquired micropenis of less than average size. They probably also cover the costs in case of micropenis resulting from other surgery. They do not cover the costs for a purely cosmetic reason.
