Please follow these instructions carefully to reduce the administration time and give us enough time to care for you personally to be able to make your visit to us as pleasurable as possible.
Please do not...
- eat (anything), drink (even water), smoke or chew gum the day of surgery. You are only allowed to brush your teeth and rinse with water (do not swallow water).
--
- wear contact lenses, eye glasses, dentures, or other helping prosthetic devices except when absolutely essential. You should then report them to the administration on your arrival.
--
- use make up; nail polish, body creams, after shave, perfumes or colognes.
--
- bring children with you to the center. It is difficult to keep them quite for a long period.
--
- give any appointment or make time arrangements on the day of surgery.
--
- start your pain medications until after surgery and only when they are really indicated.
Please do...
- take your medications as approved by your family physician and surgeon only with a small sip of water.
--
- if you have had any thing to eat 8-10 hours before surgery you must strictly report it to the anesthetist or surgeon. I might decide to cancel or postpone the surgery. This is your own health! It is better to be safe than to be sorry!
--
- Please appear at least one hour before the surgery and apply to the administration of the hospital to receive some instructions and pre medications for the surgery.
--
- wear wide casual clothes which may be easily put off and on after the surgery. Wear clothes with buttons or zippers are in front. And wear slippers.
--
- put your hair in a ponytail, if it is long but do not use hairpins.
--
- on arrival at the center, please give the name, telephone number and contact address of your driver and your accompanying person as well as the phone number and address where you will stay for the day after the surgery to the administration office.
--
- evacuate your bladder, wash your hands with soap and wear the hospital clothes which will be given to you by the responsible nurse.
--
- when you return back from the surgery, you may have a catheter coming out of your urethra. Please do not pull on it. If you feel some discomfort just call for the nurse who will give you medications immediately and answer all your questions.
--
- leave the bandages clean and do not pull on them or try to see the wound or the results of your surgery.
--
- before leaving the hospital the nurse will inspect your wound, vital signs, remove your catheter (if any is present) and be sure that you can void urine spontaneously, walk around without assistance and tolerate liquids. Your surgeon and anesthetist will advise you about food, behavior and medication. If you are on the ward as for an inpatient surgery, the nurse will expect you to tolerate food as well before discharge.
