Tissue engineering
Penile thickening has developed in the last 10 years considerably so that tissue engineering is used in it. The trials for penis thickening has started by injectoiin of vaseline then body fat then skin fat grafts from the buttock area. This has further widened to include sillilcon rods or injectioin of other substances underneath the skin like silicon, vaseline and hot wax. Now Permacol (made of pigs skin) is used for the same purpose. All these methods did not give the wished result. This has resulted in deformation and infection due to the implantation of foreign material in the body. Further more deformities and irrigularities were observed apart from reabsorptioin of the fat injected. One of the methods that has popularity but should not be used is the use og homogeneous fat injection which collects in some parts and may be hard or may lead to loss of function.

Tissue enigneering started with one of the safe methods for this operation is the implantation of AlloDerm which is a natural protien of the human body. It is a skin layer taken from cadaver which is specially treated to not to react with the body. It is expensive and thin. Another way of performing penile thickening is the implantation of VYPRO II network under the skin. This gives a permenant result without affecting the sensatioin of the organ. This substance is known and is used in hernia repair. There is no body rejection and does not cause the a.m. complications. A third acceptable technic is the implantation of the skin fat graft after removal of the hair containing layer. This is safe ans successful. Recently, tissue engineering has used the cultivation of self cells taken from the blood and spread on a pre prepared artificial tissue and then implant it in the body.

The medium gain of girth of the penis is 2 to 2.5 cm which means 30-50% in comparison to the original state. This last tissue engineering method is safe in my opinion and is better in comaprision to the injection of fat.
